italian label greentech was inaugurated by minimono last year with a great remix by windy city legend paul johnson. the second edition features gaetano caruana aka caruan making his debut in production after many years of djing. -tempo reale- is an inventive and off kilter groove generated by clearly analogue means that pounds and grinds away out of sync at first, until it gradually begins to lock and it sounds great. there s some killer remixes by a real who s who of the scene and we can t help but mention all of them! first up fellow italians verrina & ventura deliver a typically stripped and rolling minimal house rendition. croatian hypnotic techno don petar dundov then delivers something more pounding and aggressive than we re used to, but we loved it all the same. finally the -eduardo de la calle tempo intrusion reale remix- sees the spanish master of trance induction deliver one of his best remixes in a while, complete with spooky sci-fi atmosphere, millsian bleeps and sonar blips.

the grooves of thomas white and pete williams aka natural rhythm, have been a mainstay in the sets of robsoul boss phil weeks for more than a decade. today he pays ‘tribute’ with a special re-release of some of his favourites. born in a garage in the late 90’s, natural rhythm was a meeting of passionate musical minds. working together the pair sought to create their own style and sound, influenced by the tracks they were regularly spinning in their own dj sets across the country. creative sampling and their own raw beats, together with live instrumentation and regular guest vocalists, saw natural rhythm create a strong catalogue that, as we know, are still getting played today. with three albums and over 35 ep/single releases to their name, there more than enough music for label boss weeks to select from for the tribute ep. a tough job? of course. however, phil went straight for the four that never leave his box. leading the ep are the sun-drenched vocal vibes of ‘something big’, the title track of natural rhythm’s 1999 release on under the counter. our a2 is the lead track from 2001’s last call at the martini ranch ep, ‘chicago nights’, with its quaking bassline and disco dalliance. on the flip we’re treated to a choice selection from natural rhythm’s 1999 double album contrast in nature. first up with its celestial chimes and thumping kick is ‘smoldering island’, taken from the original part 1. closing the tribute release and taken from part 2 is the devilishly funky and suitably titled feelgood jam ‘energized’. we definitely are!

over the last ten years, greg kozo released self-produced house music eps on his labels, place blanche or enchanté records, and toured the world with one of the most successful french electronic band between 2009 and 2015. 2016 marks the year of the release of his rst solo album due in october on roy music. melodic and deep-house oriented, the rst single release -you- comes with a video, shot, edited and directed by greg in bangkok, thailand.. -signs- is very characteristic of greg’s club culture, although lled with techno beats.&#8232, last but not least, i:cube (versatile) aka -one of the godfathers of the french touch- gives us a deep-house soulful version of -you-. hypnotic and extatic ! mixed by greg kozo / masterized by chab mastering.

the sixth release in this series of eight opens up with alexander kowalskis remix of lydia to the edge of panic on the a-side. kowalskis version is a pounding techno monster, with a heaving baseline and delayed chords, hinting at a more sinister dimension beyond the edge of panic. trolly routes (aka. oscar mulero) remix of miscellaneous pt. 7 on a-2, lulls and hypnotizes with an acid-tinged interpretation of the original track, that nods to the plus 8 school of techno. the b-side kicks off with jeff rushins remix of little green apples, pairing the spacious and beautifully gloomy background atmosphere of the original track with a heavier version of its rhythmic framework. the final track gives us the re-mastered original version of confort corpse, which displays christian morgensterns uncanny dedication to exploration and his love for the 80s.

second circle returns with their first release of 2016, this time with an ep from australian producer tornado wallace aka lewie day. . following up on releases for the likes of beats in space, esp institute and delusions of grandeur, wallace takes a step to the left with his first record made in his new home of berlin. recorded earlier this year, the release presents a trio of oddball house excursions which are at times deeply spatial and hypnotic and at other moments heavily percussive and almost tribal.

this is the first volume in a series of release showcasing the analog hardware experiments of michigan-raised, new jersey raised michael alan rogers aka personator. running the gamut from raw, springy machine rhythms propelling the snarls of modular synths to softly pulsating white noise adorned with lullaby-like melodies, two of the tracks were recordded straight to dat in the artists studio, while a third was recorded live at a late night loft party in chinatown. perfect for fans of hieroglyphic being, jahiliyya fields, nation, trilogy tapes, etc

following the well acclaimed comeback on bosconi -gang of fools ep- and the releases on robsoul and vibraphone, fabio della torre and ennio colaci aka minimono strike again with a double release that might be considered as a split album in 2 vinyl records named -theory of strings-.first of two eps starts with the chuggy, jazzy and edgy vibe of -get the groove-, an intelligent partial rework of an underground disco-not-disco old gem. second cut gets more funky-filtered, bouncing and suspended with the fresh broken atmosphere of -back in dc- .on the b side fabio and ennio go back to jazziness adding more broken grooves, some twisted rhodes solo goodness and a persistent hypnotic driving feel to the track -actually-, and then ending this first part with another smooth filtered and toolish winner for the summer called meningi. mind the strings and wait for the second part!

the martinez brothers cuttin headz returns with a new ep from the butcha, entitled 10001 and backed with two remixes from matrixxman. phil moffa aka the butcha is a new york city based musician, producer and engineer most notably known for his works alongside dj spider and anthony parasole for sublevel sounds / plan b recordings and alongside seth troxler for hypercolour. here we see him return to the fledgling cuttin headz imprint with his idiosyncratic take on raw, emotive house music following his destination void release alongside dj spider and brendon moeller last year. up first are two originals from the butcha, the first of which 99 prince st. lays focus on echoing atmospherics, snaking rhodes and shuffling dubbed out percussion while the latter, 6 hubert st. pivots towards an amalgamation an upfront organic rhythm alongside a weighty low end drive and wandering synth swells. to complete the package san franciscos matrixxman delivers two interpretations, firstly the acidized mix which as the name would suggest draws on squelching 303 lines layered over processed snippets from the original before the digital bonus transhuman mix closes on an arpeggio fuelled techno tip.

rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

since his first release in 2014, gardens of god has been building himself a sterling reputation that many can only dream of. this autumn sees the lithuanian dj and producer launch his own sodai imprint, with his own two track production river/ghost ep forming the debut release.river opens with a captivating force and level of intricacy that’s undeniably a gardens of god signature production. g host is highly emotive and charged, a record that unfolds with such force taking overarching white noise and horns to command the peak of the night. the creation of the sodai label arose as an outlet to release his own music at his own pace. as he explains,sodai will allow me to experiment with my sounds and create an ongoing project that gives me the freedom to style both with art and music. minidaugas lapinskis aka gardens of god has only released a handful of ep s and yet his name is often spoken with great regard among fellow artists, including the illustrious maceo plex. for over a decade gardens of god has been steadily mastering his craft and creating both film and television scores. it is only in recent years that he has decided to unveil his work and open the doors to his studio, as seen over at xlr8r

humanoid x is cpus deepest foray into detroit techno so far, from blixaboy aka mwanza dover texas based artist, friend of cygnus and very much part of the local electro scene. dover presents an album influenced by the pioneers of the hypnotic groove. on first pass you’ll find elements of krautrock through to the belleville three, all with finely crafted arrangements that reveal themselves in more detail on each listen. a cyberpunk theme runs throughout as blade runner-esque synths wash over the album evoking late night electric-city noodle restaurant contemplation. blixaboy has selected 4 of the more dj friendly tracks from the album for the vinyl e.p. treatment.

samuel walker aka deejay astral first emerged onto the scene in 2011 under the palace alias with a string of raw garage / house releases on dj haus’ unknown to the unknown & hot haus imprints. in late 2015 he made the switch over to his astral moniker to take his production in a deeper direction, since his switch he has released on shall not fade, w&o street tracks and now steel city dance discs. astral’s infectious brand of playful club music is perfect for the dance floor.

italian producer dj octopus steps up for the sixth release on vinyl only imprint shall not fade, with his mechanical, percussion heavy ‘the internet’ ep. marco zanin aka dj octopus first came onto the scene in 2013 with a string of releases on respected imprints such as&#894,, hot haus, chiwax, hardmoon & love notes. since then his sound has evolved and progressed massively, now resulting in a distinctive brand of warm soulful, analogue heavy house music. the four track ep, features club friendly cuts best suited for a dark dancefloor.
